Water aeration

Productivity of pond depends on various factors, starting with water quality and ending with oxygen mode. Regular care, maintenance of the pond, and care about its fauna and flora are needed.

It is a frequent question “How to preserve fish under ice?” Majority of fish growers believe that it is necessary to clean snow, the sun will revitalize pond’s plants and they will start making oxygen. However, several cloudy days would result in sleeping plants again. Waterholes are also not sufficient to allow oxygen to water. They get covered by ice immediately. A waterhole may be useful only as much as light enters the water through it. The best solution to preserve fish in winter – water aeration (saturation with oxygen).

Aerators are used in summer to saturate water with oxygen, when water lacks oxygen. In winter, aerators help fish to survive – they are used to ventilate water in carp-growing locations, and the most importantly, they are used to saturate water ponds with air.

How do aerators work?

The functions performed by water aerators are the following: aeration, oxidation, degassing, circulation, foam removal, cleaning of water and bottom.
  • Water aerators blow a big amount of small air bubbles into the water at regulated height
    (0,5-2 meters).
  • Swirling results in blending of air and oxygen in water.
  • Aeration neutralizes pollutants in certain depth.
  • Aerator guarantees better entrance for oxygen into water. It may supply pure oxygen without dispersal within the distance of 0,5 to 8 meters.
  • Aerator removes harmful gas from water.
  • When an aerator creates horizontal water flow and vertical air flow in water, it prevents stratification of any type and thus, preserves unchanging ecosystem.
  • Water aerator protects from formation of gas pockets.
  • Depending on the pond’s size, a capacity of aerator and an air bower are selected. For example, membranous 60 W air blower may blow in some 60 l/min air.
Note: it is necessary to rescue fish effectively when oxygen amount decreases down to 2,5 mg/l at least. Later it may be too late already. Besides, the results will be positive only in ponds of several acres or hectares. The increase in overflow should be effective in lakes of hundreds of hectares.
