Oil/Peutroleum Separators

Purpose

The purpose of oil separators made by UAB “Buiteka LT” are attributed to category I of oil separators, where maximum permitted amount of petroleum products in treated wastewater is 5 mg/l.
Oil separators are made from glass fibre of excellent working characteristics that meet all the requirements set for this material. Use of the most optimal combinations of glass fibre grants high physical and chemical resistance to the product, leading to its durability and easy installation of the plant.
Separators of petroleum products are meant to separate light petroleum products from rain wastewater. It is possible to separate oil from water by gravitation and/or with the help of coalescing plates. Oil separators may be used for primary wastewater treatment, before rain wastewater is let to rain sewerage system, or for final wastewater treatment, before it is let to water ponds. Oil separators may be used to treat rain wastewater from:

• gas stations,
• street,
• garages (repairing shops),
• parking lots,
• garage arrays,
• territories of industrial companies,
• scrap lots,
• territories of warehouses and terminals and other objects.

Oil separators cannot be used to for domestic wastewater treatment. Automatic alarm system with a sensor may be installed into the oil separator for an extra fee. The sensor signals amount of oil accumulated in the separator. When certain level of oil is reached, the sensor sends a sound signal that accumulated petroleum products need to be removed.

Operation principle

Oil separator has a cylindrical vertical or horizontal body (sand catcher, the first and the second chambers), coalescing filter and sensor of wastewater level. In order to safeguard the degree of wastewater cleaning from oil required in the standards (at least 5 mg/l in output), a sand catcher of appropriate capacity is installed in front of each oil separator. There sedimentation of mineral suspension (sand, gravel, silt, etc.) happens. Wastewater enters the first chamber of oil separator from the sand catcher through the inflow pipe and distribution device of incoming air. Then flotation and coalescence take place. Larger particles of petroleum products float (they rise up because of difference in weights). Small particles precipitate on the surface of coalescing filter (adsorption), where they join others (coalescence) until they start floating and thus a layer of petroleum products is formed. If wastewater has to be removed from petroleum products up to the level of 1 mg/l, the flow of wastewater continues to the second chamber of the oil separator, where it is treated additionally, using the filter Fibroil. The treated wastewater is directed to domestic sewerage networks for additional treatment through the outflow pipe from the separator via sewerage pipes.

Maintenance

The hatches of technical maintenance are installed above the sand catcher and separators. They allow deepening the inflow pipe of the sand catcher and separators until the needed depth in the earth surface is reached. If oil separator does not have a sound alarm and a level sensor, it is necessary to check a layer of accumulated petroleum products regularly every two weeks. Petroleum products have to be removed from a separator if thickness of their layer exceeds 1 cm. petroleum products are removed through a servicing hatch by extracting it by sanitation machine. If a level sensor is present in the oil separator petroleum products are extracted when a sound
alarm turns on.

Guarantee obligations

The guarantee of 10 years is granted for the construction of oil separator, and the guarantee of 1 year is granted for electrical part. If amount of petroleum products exceeds threshold set by the manufacturer of oil separator, the manufacturer shall not be held responsible for failures in operation of an oil separator.
